Special Prize Winning Holiday Stuffing

  • This is a prize winning stuffing recipe that I think you’ll find interesting.  It has a lot of different flavors all mixed in together, and is what would be considered a healthy recipe.  You can substitute any ingredients you want, like turkey sausage  in place of regular sausage, or I like to use a rice called “pecan rice” in a little box, in place of wild rice, or mix the two together.  This recipe turns out real good, so I thought I would share it with you for the holidays.  This special stuffing has a novel mix of ingredients: Cranberries, wild rice, hazelnuts, apples, sausage, and a splash of orange liqueur–                                                                                                                                                                                                            1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins ;  1/4 cup orange liqueur or orange   juice ;          1- 1/4 cups chopped celery ;  1- 1/4 cups chopped onion ;  1/4 cup butter ;  1 tsp. poultry seasoning ;  1  8-oz. pkg. herb-seasoned stuffing  mix ( 2 cups) ;  2 cups peeled, chopped apple  (2 apples) ; 1/2 lb. bulk pork sausage, cooked and well drained ;  1 cup cooked wild rice ;  1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts or slivered almonds  ;  1/2 cup snipped parsley ;  3/4 to 1 cup chicken broth ;  Salt and pepper to   taste                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             In a small saucepan bring cranberries or raisins and orange liqueur or orange juice to boiling.  Remove from heat and set aside.                                                                                                                                                                                             In a large skillet cook celery and onion in hot butter till tender.  Stir in poultry seasoning; set aside.  In a large bowl combine stuffing mix, apple, cooked sausage, wild rice, hazelnuts or almonds, and parsley.  Stir in the cranberry mixture and celery-and-onion mixture.  Drizzle with enough chicken broth to moisten, tossing lightly.  Season with salt and pepper.   Use to stuff one 8- to 10-pound turkey.  Or, bake, covered, in an ungreased 3 quart casserole in a 325 degree oven for 40 to 60 minutes or till heated through.  Makes 8 to 10 servings.                                                                                                                                                                                                        Nutrition information per serving:  376 cal. Some Preventive Tips For Staying Healthy This Winter

Since this is the time of year when the weather gets colder, and it creates  changes that we need to make, to get used to handling it, there are some simple steps that we can take to stay healthy and not get sick.  One of the most important things we can do is to wash our hands frequently with warm water and soap, to cleanse them of any germs that could be potential trouble for our body.  When we open doors, we should try to use the back of our hand, or use a napkin, etc.  When we pump our gas, we can get one of the towels that are used to clean windshields, and put it on the pump handle so we won’t have to touch it.  When we go to the grocery store,we can  be sure and use the hand wipes to at least wipe off the cart where we will be touching it, and also wipe off  our hands.  The reason this will help is because so many different people touch these same things, and we don’t know what people have on their hands.  When we touch these common areas that the public touches, the germs that are  alive will get on our hands .  That’s  OK if  we wash them frequently.  What the mistake is that most people make, is they start touching their face, eyes, nose, or mouth with their fingers, and that’s where germs gain an entrance into our bodies, and once they get in, they start multiplying.  If  our immune system is weakened,  our body will have  a hard time fighting these germs off.  There are some other things that we can do to help our bodies to resist these germs….one of them is to use garlic in our food.  Fresh garlic is the best (even though it smells a little), it has an ingredient called allicin in it which is a natural antibiotic and germ fighter.  This is why when some mothers make chicken soup from scratch, they put garlic cloves into it.  Another thing we can do for our bodies to strengthen our immune system is to make sure we are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables in our diet.  One of the ingredients that our bodies need every day are vitamin C  which our bodies can not make.  We get our vitamin C from fruits like strawberries, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, limes, papaya, pineapples, kiwi fruit, and mangos.  We get our vitamin C from vegetables like broccoli, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, bok choy, green pepper, red pepper, kale, and rosehips, which you can get in tea.  What vitamin C does for the body is it strengthens the capillaries which carry the  blood, so that germs cannot permeate through them into the body.  It also is an antioxident and fights free radicals (toxins) in the body so bad things can’t get into the bloodstream.  Vitamin C  has been proven to be an effective antiviral agent, and it will help you a lot in staying healthy this winter if you’ll make sure to get some each day.  It needs to be in it’s natural form to be able to be utilized by the body, so the best way to get it is by eating some of the foods you know has it in them.  Take preventative measures and stay healthy this winter!

Good And Healthy Meatloaf

I created this meatloaf recipe by accident, but it tasted so good, that now I would like to share it with you, too.  I have been using organic meat, or meat with no anti-biotics or hormones, but you can use any ground meat that you like.  Start with 1 lb. ground beef,  add 1 sweet onion diced, 1 red or green bell pepper diced, 1 egg, 1/4 cup brown sugar, about 4-5 dashes of worchestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, a couple dashes of soy sauce if you like, then mix it all together and put it in a loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.  Just check it and make sure it is done.  Instead of adding bread crumbs or oatmeal or anything like that to stretch it, I just make it just like the recipe says, and I serve it with green peas, and brown rice.  There are never any leftovers to put away.  I hope you enjoy this recipe.  Bon Appetit!

Keep in mind that making healthy recipes can really be hard and tough for some people; sometimes they may also be difficult to find around. That is why I have her something that will surely be loved by everyone in the family: young and old alike. Presenting the turkey soup with ground hamburger!

This is indeed one healthy recipe that can be really suggested as a slow cooker recipe. Not to mention that will really be loved by your kids (I have proven it with mine); and the fact that this is easy on the budget and on our waistline will also make it be loved by parents. The good thing is that, even if you are a busy body, you can also do this recipe since it will only eat up some 10 minutes, the most, of your precious time. Take note of the ingredients below: (do not forget the slow cooker)

Ground Turkey Soup Recipe

1 lb Ground Turkey or even an Extra Lean Hamburger* (please refer to the note below)
1/4 Tsp. Oregano, dried
3 Cups Water, hot
1/4 Tsp. Black Pepper
1 Cup Carrots, Sliced
8 oz.  of Tomato Sauce
1/4 Tsp. Seasoned Salt
1 Cup Celery, Sliced
1 Tbsp. Soy sauce, Low-sodium
1 Envelope Dry Onion Soup Mix
1 Cup cooked Macaroni

1/4 Cup Parmesan Cheese, grated

Here’s how to do it:

a.      Mix all ingredients together, but not the parmesan cheese and macaroni yet,
in your slow cooker.

b.      Cook them low for some six to eight hours.

c.       Then have the macaroni cooked (as per instructions) and turn your slow cooker to high level. Then you can put the cooked parmesan cheese and the macaroni.

d.      Have it cooked for some fifteen-twenty minutes more.

e.      Then you can serve it up and let the family enjoy!

(Note: The actual ideal size of the slow cooker to be used for a recipe like this is a four quart one. And this recipe can make up to six servings. Then, if you like to use an extra lean hamburger, you have to cook that first and then drain it off of all the grease then put it in your slow cooker.)

The next one is a healthy recipe for kids that is rich in Vitamin C. Take note that this vitamin is really essential for the kids; and the great thing about this is that this vitamin is present in a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. One good benefit of Vitamin C is that it is a powerful agent acting out as anti-oxidant and also as anti-inflammatory one that will definitely prevent damages to the cells that are oxygen-based.

And an easy source of Vitamin C is found by taking different fruits and veggies which can also be delicious especially when added with attractive colors and healthy textures that are still appealing to children. Keep in mind also that some delicious sources of this wonderful vitamin are citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and strawberries. That is why I have here a recipe called “Strawberry Fluff Recipe”.  Take note of the following details and ingredients:

You will need the following:

16 oz. of fresh or frozen strawberries

1 large Cool Whip tub

¼ cup of sugar

1 pkg. marshmallows, colored

Here’s how to do it:

1. First, cut up all the strawberries

2. Then mix it with the Cool Whip

3. Add the sugar

4. Mix them well

5. Make sure you stir in the package marshmallows, 1/2 to 3/4

6. Finally, refrigerate first before serving.

And finally, for busy cooks and moms out there, here is one recipe about one of the most loved food of kids now—meatloaf. It is a known fact that there are a lot of meatloaf recipes out there, but then one good recipe should be done in a matter of minutes so busy moms can still prepare it and then move on to the next task. This recipe here is something that will be a variety to the usual meatloaf recipe that we already know.

You can also use ground beef here, if you prefer it. Still some people also make use of sausage, ground veal, or ground pork—the choices are really limitless. But then let me just present here a basic one that will really save you time and efforts. I call this recipe as “Basic and Easy Meatloaf Healthy Recipe”. Read on.

You will need the following:

½ teaspoon of pepper

1 large onion which should be finely chopped

2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce (optional, but can be good)

¼ cup of catsup (and can be more for top if you desired)

You will have to do the following:

1.       First, preheat your oven to 375 ◦F

2.      Then in a large loaf pan (can also be ovenproof baking dish, if you want) start to mix all the ingredients

3.      Start shaping this into loaf shape.

4.      You can bake it at 375 for an hour or until it is done.

5.      You can opt to cover the top with a lot more catsup especially during the last remaining 20 minutes of your baking.

5 Simple Ways to Live Healthy

Each of us has always wanted to become healthy and to live a life that will make us productive and useful. And to be able to make the healthy choices that will govern our body and life is an accomplishment that is worth pursuing for. In fact, choosing correctly is the main ingredient in order to live a healthy and long life. To some extent, we are responsible in controlling over our own bodies so that we will be able to live the life that is meant to be lived.

Doing a personal self-check to see that we are doing only the right things in our body will be helpful in avoiding those things that will be doing us nothing but the reverse. Lifestyle and habit check in order to see how fatigue we are can also be helpful. Remember that fatigue and living a sedentary life can be detrimental for us. Listed below are five of the simple things we can try to do so that we may be able to live healthy and long.

#1. Always try and breathe in the freshest air you can breathe. And it would be wise to be a nonsmoker if you want to achieve this step. Get a lot of fresh outdoor air. Do not keep on spending most of your hours, if not your entire life, indoors. Go out from time to time. When you can find a few minutes away from your office, then do it. Getting the fresh air outdoors can be beneficial to your health, and sadly enough, we tend to overlook this factor so much.

#2. Our body needs all the water we can give it. If you are not fond of drinking plain water, chances are you will spend most of your life in the dehydration stage, and this is very unhealthy. If you can drink 6-8 important glasses a day every day, aside from the coffee, soft drinks, or tea that you are consuming, then you are on the right track. Adding more water to your daily routine and regimen will help you really feel better and will give you the energy you definitely need.

#3. If you are getting enough water, it is also a must that you get ample sleep. Ample in the sense that you have to get at least 6-7 hours of it. Getting a good night’s sleep is still one of the major keys to essential help. But it is also better to take note that aside from getting a good night’s sleep make sure also that you get the right amount of that sleep. There are researches that conclude that those people who sleep for 6-7 hours are healthier compared to those who do at more than 8 hours or less than 4, respectively.

#4. Consume foods that are high in fiber. These foods had been proven to help reduce high blood pressure, in your attempt to avoid high blood sugar, and at the same time a big help in wastes elimination. Eating enough sources of fruits and vegetables will also be a huge step in becoming healthy. Some Americans have the bad habit of not eating the proper amount of fruits and veggies; this is something negative that will definitely have an adverse in the health. Let us also include in this tip the avoidance of alcohol consumption. It is okay to drink alcohol but having and restricting it to one drink a day can still be good. Another negative effect will certainly make your body unhealthy will happen when you consume more than 2 drinks a day.

#5. Of course, let us not forget the power of exercising. Those who work out regularly have been proven to be in the right track of living healthy and long. Take note that exercising plays a great part in attaining an overall good condition in our health.

These five tips here are just some of the basics that you can try to consider and do. There are still a lot more that can be done in order to achieve a healthy and long life. But remember that you don’t have to change your lifestyle drastically and completely all at once. Take it one step at a time, and if it is already a habit, then it will be good to go and proceed to the next steps. In reality, the simple steps we take can prove to be the better ones as we go on with our lives.

Top 5 reasons you should live healthy

Article by Robin Chung

For some years now a lot of attention has gone to areas that have taken a backseat in the past. Think of the environment and the push to live green. But since the 80s the medical department has made big jumps and we now know a lot of ways to live healthier and enhance our lives. But why should you? Here are 5 reasons.

5. It’s easy
Believe it or not but it’s easy to live healthy. The reason for this is because it’s a lifestyle choice and not a limitation per se. After about a week of living healthy the body and mind adjusts in a way that we wouldn’t want to go to the old ways.
A healthy portion of exercise and nutritious foods should always be on your mind. It’s not hard, just takes some getting used to.

4. Bragging rights
A healthy diet and enough exercise can help your muscles grow. Finally you can be that buff person from the movies, you know the one that gets the girl but than loses her to a smart guy with feelings. This is definitely a reason people should want to go healthy.

3. It’s cool in a different way
This point is perhaps arguable but living healthy is a cool thing these days. Isn’t it great to be different? Go to school and collect an Apple from the cafeteria instead of those insane portions of cheeseburgers. It will get some heads turning occasionally believe me. So attention seekers, go to the green side of the plate.

2. It’s cheap
It can be a cheaper life style than the one you have now. If you’re a smoker and a heavy drinker, lose those things and it can save thousands of dollars on year basis. And even for more common lifestyles it can save money because living healthy means eating “when you’re hungry”. I dare to bet that your shopping chart will be lighter to push. And not just because of the thicker biceps!

1. It enhances your life
How could this reason not win? Basically every aspect of your life -apart from some social gatherings perhaps- becomes better. You’ll have more strength and feel more energized, this results in more productivity. All in all it leads to more happiness in your life. And with that in mind it’s worth extending that life by making the right choices.

So those are the 5 main benefits you’ll enjoy by adopting a healthier lifestyle. There’re more but these are the ones that will spring to mind for most on the fence. Let me help you make the decision. And remember if you don’t like in you can always go back.
