Special Prize Winning Holiday Stuffing

  • This is a prize winning stuffing recipe that I think you’ll find interesting.  It has a lot of different flavors all mixed in together, and is what would be considered a healthy recipe.  You can substitute any ingredients you want, like turkey sausage  in place of regular sausage, or I like to use a rice called “pecan rice” in a little box, in place of wild rice, or mix the two together.  This recipe turns out real good, so I thought I would share it with you for the holidays.  This special stuffing has a novel mix of ingredients: Cranberries, wild rice, hazelnuts, apples, sausage,and a splash of orange liqueur–                                                                                                                                                                                                            1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins ;  1/4 cup orange liqueur or orange   juice ;          1- 1/4 cups chopped celery ;  1- 1/4 cups chopped onion ;  1/4 cup butter ;  1 tsp. poultry seasoning ;  1  8-oz. pkg. herb-seasoned stuffing  mix ( 2 cups) ;  2 cups peeled, chopped apple  (2 apples) ; 1/2 lb. bulk pork sausage, cooked and well drained ;  1 cup cooked wild rice ;  1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts or slivered almonds  ;  1/2 cup snipped parsley ;  3/4 to 1 cup chicken broth ;  Salt and pepper to   taste                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             In a small saucepan bring cranberries or raisins and orange liqueur or orange juice to boiling.  Remove from heat and set aside.                                                                                                                                                                                             In a large skillet cook celery and onion in hot butter till tender.  Stir in poultry seasoning; set aside.  In a large bowl combine stuffing mix, apple, cooked sausage, wild rice, hazelnuts or almonds, and parsley.  Stir in the cranberry mixture and celery-and-onion mixture.  Drizzle with enough chicken broth to moisten, tossing lightly.  Season with salt and pepper.   Use to stuff one 8- to 10-pound turkey.  Or, bake, covered, in an ungreased 3 quart casserole in a 325 degree oven for 40 to 60 minutes or till heated through.  Makes 8 to 10 servings.                                                                                                                                                                                                        Nutrition information per serving:  376 cal. Some Preventive Tips For Staying Healthy This Winter

Since this is the time of year when the weather gets colder, and it creates  changes that we need to make, to get used to handling it, there are some simple steps that we can take to stay healthy and not get sick.  One of the most important things we can do is to wash our hands frequently with warm water and soap, to cleanse them of any germs that could be potential trouble for our body.  When we open doors, we should try to use the back of our hand, or use a napkin, etc.  When we pump our gas, we can get one of the towels that are used to clean windshields, and put it on the pump handle so we won’t have to touch it.  When we go to the grocery store,we can  be sure and use the hand wipes to at least wipe off the cart where we will be touching it, and also wipe off  our hands.  The reason this will help is because so many different people touch these same things, and we don’t know what people have on their hands.  When we touch these common areas that the public touches, the germs that are  alive will get on our hands .  That’s  OK if  we wash them frequently.  What the mistake is that most people make, is they start touching their face, eyes, nose, or mouth with their fingers, and that’s where germs gain an entrance into our bodies, and once they get in, they start multiplying.  If  our immune system is weakened,  our body will have  a hard time fighting these germs off.  There are some other things that we can do to help our bodies to resist these germs….one of them is to use garlic in our food.  Fresh garlic is the best (even though it smells a little), it has an ingredient called allicin in it which is a natural antibiotic and germ fighter.  This is why when some mothers make chicken soup from scratch, they put garlic cloves into it.  Another thing we can do for our bodies to strengthen our immune system is to make sure we are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables in our diet.  One of the ingredients that our bodies need every day are vitamin C  which our bodies can not make.  We get our vitamin C from fruits like strawberries, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, limes,papaya, pineapples, kiwi fruit, and mangos.  We get our vitamin C from vegetables like broccoli, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, bok choy, green pepper, red pepper, kale, and rosehips, which you can get in tea.  What vitamin C does for the body is it strengthens the capillaries which carry the  blood, so that germs cannot permeate through them into the body.  It also is an antioxident and fights free radicals (toxins) in the body so bad things can’t get into the bloodstream.  Vitamin C  has been proven to be an effective antiviral agent, and it will help you a lot in staying healthy this winter if you’ll make sure to get some each day.  It needs to be in it’s natural form to be able to be utilized by the body, so the best way to get it is by eating some of the foods you know has it in them.  Take preventative measures and stay healthy this winter!

Good And Healthy Meatloaf

I created this meatloaf recipe by accident, but it tasted so good, that now I would like to share it with you, too.  I have been using organic meat, or meat with no anti-biotics or hormones, but you can use any ground meat that you like.  Start with 1 lb. ground beef,  add 1 sweet onion diced, 1 red or green bell pepper diced, 1 egg, 1/4 cup brown sugar, about 4-5 dashes of worchestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, a couple dashes of soy sauce if you like, then mix it all together and put it in a loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.  Just check it and make sure it is done.  Instead of adding bread crumbs or oatmeal or anything like that to stretch it, I just make it just like the recipe says, and I serve it with green peas, and brown rice.  There are never any leftovers to put away.  I hope you enjoy this recipe.  Bon Appetit!

1 Tbsp. Soy sauce, Low-sodium
1 Envelope Dry Onion Soup Mix
1 Cup cooked Macaroni

1/4 Cup Parmesan Cheese, grated

Here’s how to do it:

a.      Mix all ingredients together, but not the parmesan cheese and macaroni yet,
in your slow cooker.

b.      Cook them low for some six to eight hours.

c.       Then have the macaroni cooked (as per instructions) and turn your slow cooker to high level. Then you can put the cooked parmesan cheese and the macaroni.

d.      Have it cooked for some fifteen-twenty minutes more.

e.      Then you can serve it up and let the family enjoy!

(Note: The actual ideal size of the slow cooker to be used for a recipe like this is a four quart one. And this recipe can make up to six servings. Then, if you like to use an extra lean hamburger, you have to cook that first and then drain it off of all the grease then put it in your slow cooker.)

Adding more water to your daily routine and regimen will help you really feel better and will give you the energy you definitely need.

#3. If you are getting enough water, it is also a must that you get ample sleep. Ample in the sense that you have to get at least 6-7 hours of it. But it is also better to take note that aside from getting a good night’s sleep make sure also that you get the right amount of that sleep.
