Natural Aphrodisiacs! The Top 10 Foods To Get You In The Mood

What you eat can have a direct impact on your sex life, affecting your hormones, brain chemistry, energy and stress levels. Some foods have psychoactive properties, others arouse because they are psychologically suggestive, and some can actually increase blood flow to the genitals.

For enhanced sex, natural aphrodisiacs are well worth exploring, especially the aphrodisiac foods in this article which not only serve romantic and erotic purpose but are virtuously healthy. Many of the natural aphrodisiacs in this article are also superfoods due to their superior health-promoting properties. You’ll find they are both female aphrodisiacs and aphrodisiacs for men. Natural aphrodisiacs are safe and fun to experiment with and can act as a catalyst for hotter sex in the bedroom, both due to their physiologicial and psychological effects.

1. Avocado

The Aztecs called the avocado tree Ahuacuatl meaning testicle tree. The ancients likened the fruit hanging in pairs on the tree to male testicles. The Spanish spread news of its stimulating powers on return to Europe and Catholic priests forbade their parishioners to eat them. Avocados are a smooth, unctuous fruit with a sexy consistency. The avocado is also a supremely healthy superfood, very mineral dense, and contains the body’s master antioxidant glutathione, as well as host of healthy carotenoids, heart-friendly monounsaturated oil and superior amounts of fibre, potassium and B6.

2. Chilli

Chillis can fire you up in more ways than one. They contain the chemical capsaicin that can induce the release of endorphins to create a temporary high. Capsaicin also speeds up the metabolism and increases circulation, responses that are similar to those experienced when having sex. It ignites our internal engine and stimulates our energy for passion. Eating large quantities of capsaicin may also work as an irritant to the genitals and urinary tract that can feel similar to sexual excitement.

3. Celery

Celery contains the male hormone androsterone that is said to stimulate sexual arousal in women. Androstenone is believed to be released after eating through perspiration and functions as a pheromone that turns women on, hence a female aphrodisiac. The Swedish author C.E. Hagdahl in his Cooking as Science and Art (1879) says that ‘Celery contributes to a stimulation of the digestion, but is also suspected to be somewhat sexually exciting or even straightforward arousing.’ The Romans also favoured the abilities of this vegetable, dedicating celery to Pluto the ‘god of sex’.

4. Chocolate

Pure chocolate, the king of natural aphrodisiacs, contains a host of compounds including anandamide, the psyochoactive feel-good chemical, and PEA (phenylethylamine), the ‘love chemical’ which releases dopamine in the pleasure-centres of the brain and peaks during orgasm. PEA is said to help induce feelings of excitement, attraction, and euphoria. Cacao also contains tryptophan, a key component of the neurotransmitter serotonin known to promote a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, and ‘nature’s Viagra’ arginine, the amino acid that enhances arousal and sensation in men and women. Arginine is converted into nitric oxide in the body which increases blood flow and relaxes smooth muscle in the gentalia. No wonder Casonova was chocolate fanatic!

5. Fennel

Fennel’s aphrodisiac traits have been upheld by research that has found it to increase the libido of both male and female rats. This is likely due to the hormone-like compounds it contains that mimic the female hormone estrogen. This estrogenic activity is why fennel has been used as a breast enlarger.

6. Figs

This sexy fruit has long been thought of as an arousing stimulant and an open fig is believed to emulate the female sex organs. Figs are steeped in history and are one of the oldest recorded fruits. They are mentioned in the bible (Adam and Eve wore fig leaves to cover their private parts), are reported to be Cleopatra’s favourite fruit and the ancient Greeks held them as sacred and associated them with love and fertility. Following on in some Southern European countries wedding guests would throw figs instead of rice at newly weds as a sign of fertility.

7. Garlic

This hot, pungent herb is said to stir sexual desires and Roman priestesses of old claimed garlic could make ‘women fall in love and men powerful’. It is certainly an immensely healthy food with many disease-protective qualities such as lowering cholesterol, aiding circulation and fighting bacteria, fungi and viruses. The problem with garlic is its potent aroma – if your partner loves it great, if not, it’s a risky choice for an aphrodisiac.

8. Honey

Sweet sticky honey is a great source of boron, a trace mineral that helps the body use and metabolise estrogen, the female sex hormone. Studies have shown that this mineral may also enhance testosterone levels in the blood, the hormone responsible for promoting sex drive and orgasm in both men and women. In addition, honey contains B vitamins needed for testosterone as well as other nutrients, enzymes and phytochemicals.

9. Liquorice (licorice)

Licorice has been used in ancient China for its love and lust provoking properties. Research has revealed that the smell itself is particularly stimulating. In a study by Dr. Hirsch, the neurological director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, black liquorice was found to increase blood flow to the penis by 13 per cent. In China it is also reported to be particularly stimulating to women.

10. Nutmeg

Nutmeg has been lauded as an aphrodisiac across numerous cultures and highly prized by Chinese women. Research supports this use as it has been observed to increase mating behaviours in mice. Large quantities of nutmeg can be psychoactive and produce hallucinogenic effects so don’t go overboard.

Herbs that are also natural aphrodisiacs, some of which are quite powerful, can have side effects and require appropriate dosage instructions (always read the label) include Yohimbe Bark, Centrum Damiana (or just Damiana), Muira Puama, Pregnenolone (Mexican Yam), Maca (Lepidium meyenii), Horny Goat Weed and to a milder extent Ginseng and Ginkgo Biloba .

10 Ways More Sex Can Improve Your Health

Why Sex Is Good For You
10 Ways More Sex Can Improve Your HealthFrom burning calories to cancer prevention, the benefits of an active love life go beyond the obvious. Ready to get some?
It probably won’t take much convincing to follow this general rule, but you should know it, anyway—the more sex you have, the healthier you’ll be. Not only can it help your general mood (thereby reducing stress), but studies show there are tangible ways sex slows down the aging process, fights disease and even heals wounds. Here, a full breakdown of the ways getting it on can save you a trip to the ER.

1. Sex promotes heart health.
A study in the American Journal of Cardiology suggests that men who have sex twice a week have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than men who have less frequent sex. And this was true even after researchers adjusted for erectile dysfunction. Analyzing the health records of 1,165 men who were monitored for 16 years as part of the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, epidemiologists at the New England Research Institutes found that men who had sexual activity once a month or less were at 50 percent greater risk of cardiovascular disease than the men who had sex more than once a week.

“Our research found that a low frequency of sexual activity predicted new cardiovascular events,” says Susan Hall, PhD. Hall says a number of possible factors could have contributed to the study’s finding: The psychical capacity to have sex might be a marker for overall health, or the physical exercise from sex might directly protect against CVD. Or it might be that men who have regular sex enjoy improved health through stress reduction from a supportive relationship. Whatever the reason, it appears that sex is good for your ticker.

2. Doing it burns calories.
Due to its brevity, having an orgasm fries only two or three calories. But the prelude can burn quite a bit more, depending on your weight and the length and vigor of the lovemaking session. For example, a raucous romp uses about 5 METs (metabolic equivalents), a system for gauging the intensity of physical activity. (Sitting quietly, for comparison, is equal to 1 MET.) So, a 190-pound man would burn 413 calories in an hour of vigorous sexual activity. But since the average lovemaking session is about 20 minutes, you’re talking about only around 150 calories. Still, that’s more than double the caloric expenditure of sitting alone on the couch.

3. Sex is a natural sleeping pill.
As women know all too well, orgasm is a rather effective sleep aid for most men.

4. Sex stifles stress.
Research at the University of the West of Scotland shows that sex, like exercise, releases anxiety, lowers stress hormones, and can help people cope with mental pressure for at least a week. In the study, 46 men and women were put in a stressful situation involving speaking and working math problems in front of a tough audience. Participants were also asked to keep a diary of their sexual activity for two weeks prior to the test. Those who had sex were the least stressed out, and their blood pressures returned to normal faster after the public speaking test. “People who had penile-vaginal intercourse did twice as well as people who only masturbated or had no sex at all,” says psychologist and lead researcher Stuart Brody.

5. A roll in the hay keeps the doctor away.
People who have sex once or twice weekly have stronger immune systems than people who have sex less than once a week, according to a study at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania by psychologists Carl J. Charnetski, PhD, and Francis X. Brennan Jr., PhD. In their book, Feeling Good is Good for You: How Pleasure Can Boost Your Immune System and Lengthen Your Life, they describe their study in which they took saliva samples from 111 college students and asked them about their frequency of sex over the course of a month. Analysis showed that the saliva of the students who had sex once or twice a week had 30 percent more of the antigen immunoglobulin A (IgA) than the saliva of students who had sex less often. “IgA is the body’s first line of defense against colds and flu,” says Charnetski. Other studies show that happy relationships are good for health. In one experiment reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh scientists shot live cold viruses up the noses of volunteers. Those who reported having strong ties with lovers, friends, and family were the least likely to catch a cold.

6. Good love is better than a bandage.
Researchers at Ohio State University Medical Center inflicted minor blister wounds on the arms of 45 married couples during 24-hour visits on two different occasions. On the first visit, the couples were prompted to engage in a positive, supportive discussion. Two months later they returned and new wounds were administered, the couples were prompted to argue. Results showed that wounds healed nearly two times faster after the positive interaction.

7. More sex may turn back the clock.
Can having sex keep wrinkles away? British neuropsychologist David Weeks, MD, of Royal Edinburgh Hospital believes so. In a 10-year-long study, he interviewed 3,500 adults in England and the United States, and found that people who reported having sex four times a week looked about 10 years younger than they actually were. Pleasure derived from having loving sex releases hormones, including human growth hormone, that are crucial in preserving youth, he says.

8. Frequent orgasms may protect against cancer.
Several studies have suggested that frequent ejaculation over many years may decrease risk of prostate cancer. In one US study, 29,000 men, ages 46 to 81, were asked their history of sexual intercourse and masturbation between the ages of 20 and 49. Researchers at the National Cancer Institute analyzed the data and determined that the group of men who reported 21 orgasms per month was much less likely to have prostate cancer than men who averaged seven or fewer ejaculations per month. The researchers speculated that several protective factors may contribute: ejaculation may clear the prostate of carcinogenic secretions and the stress-reduction benefit from orgasm may limit potential harmful substances that could trigger cancer.

9. Love longer, live longer.
An Irish study published in the British Medical Journal in 1997 tracked the mortality of 1,000 middle-aged men over the course of a decade and concluded that sexual activity may have a protective effect on health. By comparing men according to age and health, researchers found that men who had the highest frequency of orgasms had a death rate 50-percent lower than men who did not ejaculate frequently.

10. Men who have more sex are—surprise—happier!
An Australian survey of 5,000 people showed that married men are 135 percent more likely to report happiness than single men, while only 52 percent of married women are happier than unmarried women. Could it have something to do with the fact that sex is easier for cohabiting couples? According to a national sex survey conducted by the University of Chicago, sexual activity is 25 percent to 300 percent greater for married couples compared to non-married people, depending on age.

Free Non-GMO Food Shopping Guide

The relationship to GMO foods and the amount of dis-ease that people are experiencing in their bodies and in their health needs to be addressed. People are having to go to medical doctors more and more and spend a lot of their money on doctor bills and prescriptions. It’s much cheaper to prevent dis-ease, than to treat it, because if you don’t get to the root of what is causing it, you will never get off this doctor-pill merry-go-round. Why do we want to eat round-up (glyphosate, a weed killer)?? Also, why do we want to eat BT (Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a Gram-positive, soil-dwelling bacterium, commonly used as a biological pesticide)?? I know we don’t, but it is practically being forced on us because of the high percentages of certain staple crops that have it in them, such as corn, soybeans, cottonseed, canola, and others. What most people aren’t realizing is that when they pick up that box of cornflakes for their kids’ breakfast, or a bag of corn chips, they are getting genetically modified crops that went into the manufacture of that particular food, so therefore their kids are getting something that their bodies just can’t handle, and it will eventually create some form of dis-ease in their bodies. I believe the only way we are going to win this battle against these multi-national conglomerates is to do our best to avoid buying them, and eventually they will want to stop using these crops in their manufacturing process, and STOP putting them into the foods that we buy and eat! I am going to provide you with a link to a website where you can download a free Non-GMO Shopping Guide, which will help you to avoid these toxic foods, because the FDA which is supposed to be for the people, will Not make them label the foods that they use GM products in, therefore we will have to help ourselves and each other. Holiday Dieting: A Sweet Way To Cheat

Holiday Dieting: A Sweet Way To Cheat                                                                                                                                              author:Laura Turner                                                                                                                                                                                                    If your diet is making you a humbug this season, there’s some good news. Turns out dark chocolate, that decadent confection, may actually be good for you! Yes, recently conducted studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have shown that a dose of dark chocolate will heed all sorts of healthy results. And with holiday-time upon us, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. So just for fun, I thought I’d conduct a mini-research project of my own and get the “skinny” on our friend dark chocolate. Here’s some of the interesting factoids I came up with: Cocoa—the precursor to chocolate–has been around a long time. A few thousand years, in fact. It has been thought that cocoa beans were brought to Europe in the 1500’s by Christopher Columbus. Cocoa, later made into chocolate, was given to American Soldiers in WWII. According to historical data, each solider was given a three chocolate bar per day ration, due to it being such a great source of high-energy. Researchers got involved when studies showed that in addition to being a high energy food, chocolate also stimulates elevated moods. Researchers found truth to this, showing that dark chocolate does, in fact, increase levels of mood-altering chemicals such as serotonin and endorphins. Some researchers have also gone on to conduct major studies to prove the correlation between chocolate and a true physiological craving. (Check out “Why Women Need Chocolate,” written by Debra Waterhouse, Registered Dietician in 1999). And, the best news yet. Upon further study, it has been found that the “flavonoids” in dark chocolate are scientifically proven to act as antioxidants, preventing “bad” cholesterol (LDL) in the blood from oxidizing and clogging arteries. So, if you are looking for a healthy way to “cheat” this holiday season, dark chocolate may not be all together a bad option. Facts aside, however, and before you run out to fill your shopping cart full, keep these guidelines in mind: Heed the advice of Aristotle: “Everything in moderation.” Refrain from taking the “chocolate factory tour.” Keep your chocolate fix to a minimum. Enjoy it, but please don’t over do. When you are shopping for chocolate, try to find “dark” varieties with at least 70% cocoa. Also, make sure “sugar” or “butter fat” are not the first items listed. If you’d like to skip the treat but not the fun, send a virtual chocolate postcard from this fun chocolate website (no calories included) : http://www.virtualchocolate.com/index.cfm To summarize my findings; it appears that dark chocolate is in fact our friend (and we will just leave its aphrodisiac qualities to your own private discussion groups, thanks). As for the cravings… Well, do we really need chocolate? Survey says: Dunno. But, with the holidays upon us, a Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate once in a while—now available in the *sugar free” variety, mind you–sounds sweet enough to me. Some Preventive Tips For Staying Healthy This Winter

Since this is the time of year when the weather gets colder, and it creates  changes that we need to make, to get used to handling it, there are some simple steps that we can take to stay healthy and not get sick.  One of the most important things we can do is to wash our hands frequently with warm water and soap, to cleanse them of any germs that could be potential trouble for our body.  When we open doors, we should try to use the back of our hand, or use a napkin, etc.  When we pump our gas, we can get one of the towels that are used to clean windshields, and put it on the pump handle so we won’t have to touch it.  When we go to the grocery store,we can  be sure and use the hand wipes to at least wipe off the cart where we will be touching it, and also wipe off  our hands.  The reason this will help is because so many different people touch these same things, and we don’t know what people have on their hands.  When we touch these common areas that the public touches, the germs that are  alive will get on our hands .  That’s  OK if  we wash them frequently.  What the mistake is that most people make, is they start touching their face, eyes, nose, or mouth with their fingers, and that’s where germs gain an entrance into our bodies, and once they get in, they start multiplying.  If  our immune system is weakened,  our body will have  a hard time fighting these germs off.  There are some other things that we can do to help our bodies to resist these germs….one of them is to use garlic in our food.  Fresh garlic is the best (even though it smells a little), it has an ingredient called allicin in it which is a natural antibiotic and germ fighter.  This is why when some mothers make chicken soup from scratch, they put garlic cloves into it.  Another thing we can do for our bodies to strengthen our immune system is to make sure we are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables in our diet.  One of the ingredients that our bodies need every day are vitamin C  which our bodies can not make.  We get our vitamin C from fruits like strawberries, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, limes, papaya, pineapples, kiwi fruit, and mangos.  We get our vitamin C from vegetables like broccoli, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, bok choy, green pepper, red pepper, kale, and rosehips, which you can get in tea.  What vitamin C does for the body is it strengthens the capillaries which carry the  blood, so that germs cannot permeate through them into the body.  It also is an antioxident and fights free radicals (toxins) in the body so bad things can’t get into the bloodstream.  Vitamin C  has been proven to be an effective antiviral agent, and it will help you a lot in staying healthy this winter if you’ll make sure to get some each day.  It needs to be in it’s natural form to be able to be utilized by the body, so the best way to get it is by eating some of the foods you know has it in them.  Take preventative measures and stay healthy this winter!
